Kyoto, Japan
Renowned for its tranquil temples, colorful shrines, traditional
tea houses, and timeless elegance, Kyoto, Japan’s former
imperial capital, remains the country’s cultural and spiritual
heart. In the early 1930s, Kiyomizu Elementary School relocated,
leaving behind its hillside building in the Higashiyama district.
Today, that distinctive horseshoe-shaped structure, linked by
a grand central staircase, has been thoughtfully transformed
into Hotel Seiryu. Dubbed a sanctuary of quiet luxury, the hotel
preserves many of the building’s original features, allowing
guests to wander through former classrooms, corridors,
courtyards, and communal spaces that lend the property its
unique charm. The 48 plush rooms are exquisitely styled,
though the Panoramic Suite stands out for its far-reaching
views across Kyoto, including the iconic Yasaka Pagoda
and the mountains beyond.
